The UHA Program<br \/>\nis pleased to announce that Columbia University will serve as the<br \/>\nlocal host for this year\u2019s conference.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, we encourage papers that explore the theme of the<br \/>\nCosmopolitan Metropolis.  This encompasses issues of ethnic and social<br \/>\ndiversity and economic and cultural globalism in the richly varied<br \/>\nmetropolises of the United States and the world.  We seek<br \/>\ncontributions that pertain to all types of metropolitan history not<br \/>\nonly in North America but in Latin America, Europe, Asia, Australia,<br \/>\nand Africa.  Sessions on ancient and pre-modern as well as modern<br \/>\nperiods are welcome.  Graduate student submissions are encouraged.<\/p>\n<p>We prefer complete panels but individual papers are also welcome.<br \/>\nPlease designate a single person to serve as a contact for all<br \/>\ncomplete panels.  For traditional panels, include a brief explanation<br \/>\nof the overall theme, a one-page abstract of each paper, and a one or<br \/>\ntwo page c.v. for each participant.  Roundtable proposals should also<br \/>\ndesignate a contact person and submit a one page theme synopsis and a<br \/>\none or two page c.v. for each presenter.  All those submitting<br \/>\nindividual papers should include a one-page abstract and a one or two<br \/>\npage c.v.<\/p>\n<p>E-mail submissions by March 15, 2012 to Janet R. Bednarek<br \/>\nat Janet.Bednarek@notes.udayton.edu .
