{"id":379,"date":"2012-01-21T20:49:54","date_gmt":"2012-01-21T18:49:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban-studies.eu\/?p=379"},"modified":"2012-01-21T20:49:54","modified_gmt":"2012-01-21T18:49:54","slug":"panel-search-raceethnicity-section-histories-capitalism-social-science-history-association-ssha-vancouver-canada-01-04-11-12-deadline-1-march-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban-studies.eu\/?p=379","title":{"rendered":"Panel search: RACE\/ETHNICITY SECTION Histories of Capitalism Social Science History Association (SSHA) Vancouver, Canada 01.-04.11.12 Deadline: 1 March, 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RACE\/ETHNICITY SECTION PANEL SEARCH<\/p>\n<p>Histories of Capitalism<br \/>\nSocial Science History Association (SSHA)<br \/>\nVancouver, Canada<br \/>\n1-4 November, 2012<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.ssha.org\/<\/p>\n<p>Deadline: 1 March, 2012<\/p>\n<p>The race\/ethnicity section of the SSHA is hoping to put together a number<br \/>\nof sessions related to the conference site that were discussed at the<br \/>\nplanning meeting:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Indigenous Communities, Land Rights and Natural Resources;<br \/>\n&#8211; The Rise and Decline of Multiculturalism and\/or Cosmopolitanism;<br \/>\n&#8211; Race and Collective Violence;<br \/>\n&#8211; Anti-Asian Discrimination and Asian Integration on the West Coast;<br \/>\n&#8211; The Underground Railroad;<br \/>\n&#8211; Racialized Immigration Policy;<br \/>\n&#8211; Bilingualism and Racialized Language Struggles;<br \/>\n&#8211; Conflicts and Contradictions in Anglo-French Conceptions of Race;<br \/>\n&#8211; Multiracial Identities and Racial Boundaries in Historical Perspective;<br \/>\n&#8211; Legacies of Slavery and Colonialism in Contemporary America;<br \/>\n&#8211; Race and Capitalism;<br \/>\n&#8211; Race and Eugenics.<\/p>\n<p>You are welcome to submit papers regarding any of these topics, or on a<br \/>\ntopic relating to your own research. If you are interested in putting<br \/>\ntogether an entire session, let us know and we would be happy to provide<br \/>\nyou with details as to how to do this. Feel free to forward this call<br \/>\nwidely, particularly to graduate students (there is funding available for<br \/>\ngraduate students to travel to the conference which can be found at<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.ssha.org\/grants ).<\/p>\n<p>Our main goal is to structure sessions so that they explicitly draw on an<br \/>\ninterdisciplinary group of scholars who hail from different institutions.<br \/>\nThe deadline for submission of abstracts is March 1 2011. Note, all SSHA<br \/>\nrequires at this point is an abstract. You can find more information at:<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.ssha.org\/ , including the official call for papers.<\/p>\n<p>We also had three wonderful Author Meets Critics panels at the 2011 session<br \/>\nand are looking to &#8220;recreate the magic&#8221; this year in Vancouver. So if you<br \/>\nhave read any great books that you would like to seen discussed and meet<br \/>\nthe author, please let us know.  Or if you would just like to volunteer to<br \/>\nbe a critic for books to be decided within the next month, please let us<br \/>\nknow.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa F.
