In 1937, the city of Greenbelt, Maryland, was settled as a public cooperative community under the auspices of the New Deal. 75 years later, a two-day symposium will celebrate and evaluate the developments since 1937.<\/p>\n
The conference, entitled \u201cSustaining Greenbelt\u2019s Legacy\u201d, is scheduled for April 27 and 28 in the Greenbelt Community Center. The event will kick-off with the Greenbelt Museum Open House and book signing for _Images of America: Greenbelt_ (Arcadia, 2012) Thursday, April 26, in the evening. <\/p>\n
Friday morning, the symposium begins with \u201cA Living Community: Greenbelt\u2019s Enduring Legacies\u201d, followed by \u201cThe Greenbelt Museum at 25\u201d. The afternoon speakers (city staff, residents and academics) will delve into \u201cDiversity in Greenbelt\u201d and \u201cPublic Transportation for a Pedestrian City\u201d. <\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s morning session cover new initiatives. The 1 p.m. keynote address, by British architect and planner Dr. Mervyn Miller, is entitled \u201cFrom the British Garden City in Greenbelt and Back to the English New Towns\u201d.
